Some of the commonly seen problems are rooted in genetic study and with the right investigation can be identified and diagnosed at the prenatal stage. The development in genetic studies has made it possible to identify and diagnose some major diseases and disorders at the fetal stage.
This topic demonstrates examples of genetic syndromes that can be located in the prenatal stage and corrected or diagnosed accordingly, and the scenarios associated with such disorders during fetal development. It further discusses the use of actual tests and how to intepret the results for diagnosis with special importance given to Cytogenetics and FISH (Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization) studies. It covers an elaborate analysis of skeletal dysplasias and various scenarios associated with it along with lethal, non-lethal and the prenatal diagnosis, involving NIPT (Noninvasive Prenatal Testing).
The lecture also covers various aspects of genetic disorders relating to fetal scanning and care, causes and risk factors, investigation, identification and possible diagnosis demonstrated through case discussions.
